J. Crew Red Baseball Cap, Phuket

J. Crew Red Baseball Cap 3

When you have fair skin like mine you have to protect it. That means sunscreen (always, everyday!) & wearing a cap when I’m out & about for lengthy times in the sun. I purchased this cap from J. Crew quite a while ago now but I’m only just featuring it on the blog now (I know, I know! I’ll get quick one of these days!). I bought it back when I was running around my neighbourhood in the mornings in the sun. Although I no longer run around the streets (an old ankle injury makes the treadmill at the gym a much safer choice these days), I still brought this cap with me to Thailand for those days when I’d be out walking in the sun for longer than usual. One of those days was when we went south to Rawai Beach. I’ve mentioned Rawai before but it really is such a great experience. The taxi will drop you right at the waterfront where you’re met with a road that stretches along the beach. On the water side are stalls heaped with fresh fish, shellfish, crustaceans & all manner of delicious seafood. On the other hand are a few shops selling pearls & seashells, but more importantly, a handful of rough & ready restaurants. The general gist of Rawai is to buy seafood from the stalls then take it across the road for the restaurant to cook for you. We always have a huge lunch when we go to Rawai & this time was no different – garlic prawns, lobster with three flavour sauce & a whole snapper fish with lemongrass & ginger. The meal was absolutely perfect. Fresh, classic Thai flavours with delightful just-caught seafood. Perfect! Rawai can sometimes be even hotter than Kata Beach as the seafood stalls block the onshore breeze so I dressed in light separates that kept me cool as a cucumber!
