101 in 1001 – Update I

So it’s been a little over 5 months since I put together my list of 101 things to do in 1001 days & I thought I’d do a bit of an update!

Here’s what I’ve accomplished so far…

1. Come up with 101 things – It was actually quite easy coming up with the list of goals, there were some things I’d been wanting to do for a while but had never gotten around to & there were other long term things that I knew straightaway I wanted on the list. It’s also interesting to see where I am in my life as to the goals I put on my list – I’m planning on doing another 101 in 1001 after I finish this one so I’m curious to see if my aspirations & challenges change.

35. Go through ALL of my clothes & donate everything that needs donating – This was one of those things that needed to be done ASAP anyway! I usually go through my clothes every six months of so but this time I took absolutely no prisoners. I rearranged my entire wardrobe & chest of drawers so everything is much neater & more organised as well. It also made me find the gaps in my current wardrobe & what I really needed as opposed to what I simply wanted.

61. Go on a road trip – My friend recently moved to Orange & I was planning on visiting her so this was a fun one to tick off. Even though I went by myself, I still enjoyed every minute of it. I (literally) took the scenic route via Lake Lyell & took outfit photos on the way up & back. I stopped in at a cute little cafe/antiques store that sold homemade honey & bought a jar home for the Boss Man (honey addict!). You can see photos from trip here & here!

70. Buy another pair of Christian Louboutins – Ok so this is probably not high on everyone’s bucket list but these shoes are to die for. I ended up buying a pair of the most versatile black leather mid-heel pumps that will see me through decades of wear. See a photo of them here.

71. Buy & wear a real gown to an important event – When I was writing this list I’m not sure what I meant by a ‘real gown’ but I think the words ‘black tie’ or ‘white tie’ were in mind. This actually ended up being one of the first things I crossed off! The Mothership is a member of the Queens Club in the city, a very old, very grand women’s club perfectly situated above the Hermes store on Elizabeth Street. They recently renovated their entire dining room & kitchen & to celebrate the reopening they had a black tie dinner. We bought tickets without hesitation then went shopping & I found the most beautiful gown by Phase Eight. Whilst I probably won’t get a whole heap of wear out of it, the gown is timeless enough that it’ll still be worn more than once I’m hoping! You can find my blog post about the night here.

75. Make pizza from scratch – A lot of my goals & challenges were food related which is kind of funny & the majority involve making things from scratch. With this goal I was lucky enough to find the easiest pizza recipe ever conceived (it uses two ingredients – no, really, just two) & is super enjoyable to make & eat of course! You can find the recipe here.

86. Indulge in a whole day at a spa  – Ok so I didn’t stay the entire day at a spa, but boy did I have a relaxing time. I arranged for the Mothership & I to have a lovely three hour long visit to Ayurve Spa in the city for a body scrub, massage & facial. It was, in a word: heavenly.

91. Buy a pair of classic black ballet flats to replace my old ones – This was a no brainer. My old leather ballet flats literally had holes in them! I wanted to buy a quality pair of flats but I wanted a pair that didn’t cost the earth & I found them! They’re by Lauren by Ralph Lauren & are the comfiest flats I’ve ever worn! No blisters at all! Ever! Debating getting another pair…

99. Get a luxurious massage – A little while ago I pulled a muscle in my shoulder & it’s been giving me strife ever since which is a real bummer. I finally decided a week ago to get a Thai massage as they often do wonders for my muscles. I went all out for an hour & a half long massage, half with deep tissue, half with hot stone & gosh it was worth it! I might have to go back again, you know, there’s a few more kinks that need working out…

Here’s what I’m working through…

3. Try 30 new restaurants {8/30 – KyushuBarrel Bar & DiningGourmandise de ParisBloody Mary’sPizzapertaBotanic Gardens RestaurantThe Bower RestaurantThe Flying Bear} – I love trying new restaurants so this is quite a fun favourite goal to keep count on! Kyushu was delicious Japanese, Barrel Bar & Dining had modern, Heston Blumenthal-esque delights, Gourmandise de Paris had the most scrumptious crepes, Bloody Mary’s does a mean muesli & a delectable bellini, Pizzaperta is my work team’s favourite place for pizza lunch, Botanic Gardens Restaurant has a beautiful outlook & lovely French toast, The Bower serves the most stunning muesli & The Flying Bear is a peaceful neighbourhood joint that’s becoming a firm favourite!

6. Go to at least three music concerts {1/3 – Canned Heat at the Basement} – Canned Heat put on such an amazing show at The Basement recently! They’re a great blues/boogie band from the Sixties (they actually played at Woodstock & their song ‘Going Up The Country’ is probably their most popular since it made it to the Woodstock film!).

12. Read 20 classic books {3/20 – Breakfast At Tiffany’s by Truman Capote, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald} – I’m loving reading these classic novels! I’m halfway through Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck at the moment.

44. Publish at least 3 more ebooks (you can find my first one here) {1/3 – my second book is here} –  I absolutely love fiction writing in my spare time (anything creative to be honest!) & I love these books that I’ve written. They’re all about horses (my first love!) & the girls that love them. Even though they’re more suited to younger girls, I’ve had my own friends tell me how great they are!

48. Watch 5 Audrey Hepburn films {3/5 – ‘Breakfast At Tiffany’s’, ‘Roman Holiday’ & ‘Funny Face’} – Talk about fashion inspiration! I still can’t believe I’d never gotten around to watching any of these movies! I can’t wait to watch a couple more & check this off my list!

52. Completely record one of my songs {Almost done with a track called ‘Baby Don’t You Go’!} – I’ve been working pretty hard in the studio to finish one of my newer songs. I’m playing all of the instruments myself now so it’s taking a little longer but it’s so much more rewarding!

90. Try at least 50 new recipes {17/50 – Vegan Caramel Slice, Tuna Pasta Bake, Protein Banana Pancakes, Caramel Apple PieCornbread, Lemon TartRaspberry-Sour Cream CakeTwo Ingredient PizzaChocolate Brownie Cake, Vegan Choc Chip Cookies,  Caramel Mud CakeHummingbird Cake, White Chocolate Cake, Nutella Cake, Chocolate Cake with Maple Icing, Caramel Slice, Shortbread} – You can’t keep me out of the kitchen! Some of these recipes were made far too quickly for blog posts unfortunately but if I make them again, I’ll be sure to post the recipe!

94. Try at least ten new hairstyles {2/10 – Fishtail braid, Milkmaid braids} – These are bizarrely a little harder to tick off, especially now that I’ve cut my hair shorter but I’m still working on them…

Now, while I told myself when I started this whole adventure that it would be cheating if I went back to that original post & changed anything, I’ve had to change one of my goals which was originally to: Grow my hair out even longer! Now it’s:

17. Make planning my outfits for work the night before a habit {i.e. do it for at least a month & keep going}

Sometimes things have to change as circumstances change & my hair was getting way too long to be manageable! If any of you out there are doing this with me, let me know how you’re going! If you need any inspiration, check out my original list here: 101 in 1001.
